Photographer and Writer?

29 11 2007

Starting up I see many photographers adding long descriptive stories to their photos whereas some just add a short sentence or a title. I’ve also seen a few adding poems or quotes from authors they happen to be interested in or reading at the time. While many times fun or insightful, I wonder if these actually distract from the photo itself.

Should the image contents stand on its own, or can a title suffice? I believe so.

Another trend these days is for photographers to blog, sharing every element of their photographic life in an effort to keep things fresh and interesting. Is this really necessary? I would hope the photographic work itself would keep things fresh and the content alone make it interesting. I do however feel a blog or photo story gives you insight into the photographer thought process, what they are thinking when they took the shot.

So I ask,

“Does a Photographer also need to be a Writer?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

28 11 2007

Wow what a day yesterday turned out to be. A real rollercoaster.

The Good: I SOLD my first photo! It is titled Solitude

The Bad: Coach Sonny Lubic of Colorado State Univ stepped down after years and years in their program.

The Ugly: My Dad called to tell me my Step Mother was in the hospital for a lung issue. Could be mold, could be an infection or it could be Lung Cancer as theresult of years of smoking. God I hope it is something simple. Dad isn’t ready for what could happen.

Thanksgivings

Oran

One might think this is a few days late but it isn’t. What am I giving thanks for then? For you. For those of you who poked and prodded and said “Lee you really should sell your work”. Without you I would likely have never thought of it. So my site is a couple months late but a “little late” is not “too late”.

We had family in town for the American Thanks Giving holiday…wow what a blast. We hosted this year and ended up with around 20 people total…craziness! I’m thankful for my Family, they made this years feast very special. While it was hectic and took a lot of pre-planning, I’m glad we did it.

Finally I am thankful for my Wife Sheri. Without her infinite patience and understanding for my photography habit…addiction? :) I’m not sure where I would be with it today.

Thanks all!

Lee

Wow I’m Live!

26 11 2007

I can’t believe it!

After a lot of work my new site is finally live. I spent quite while choosing the right images, setting up the site, this blog and the sales site where people can purchase my work.

Reflection and Light.com

I had planned something great and insightful for my first blog post. Oh well, I’ll make that my next update! :)

Thanks all who have waited for this.

Ciao,

Lee
